Areas of Concentration

Area of Concentration: HEALTH SCIENCES

The proposed creation of a graduate program in Health Sciences aims to provide students with a solid foundation in interdisciplinary work, grounded in critical academic training, enabling them to engage in multiprofessional practice across the most diverse and relevant activities within the healthcare workflow. The term interdisciplinarity is intrinsically linked to Comprehensiveness (Integralidade), a core principle of the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) that serves as a framework for conceptualizing and implementing human resource training in Health Sciences.

Research Lines:

The two research lines within the Health Sciences area of concentration—Line 1: Public Health and Health Care and Line 2: Pathophysiology and Health Rehabilitation—emerge to structure the courses and advisors’ projects that will guide the specific research of master’s students. They aim to examine various health conditions through the dual perspectives of public health and pathophysiology, providing a complementary foundation for the training of graduates capable of addressing the challenges of professional practice in health. The convergence of these two proposed research lines fosters the transfer of knowledge from one sector to another, generating new knowledge or courses that align with graduates possessing a distinct profile—equipped with a solid, integrative core education and fully prepared to advance solutions for the multifaceted challenges faced in professional healthcare practice.

1) Pathophysiology and Health Rehabilitation

Investigates cellular, molecular, clinical, and surgical mechanisms involved in the etiology and pathophysiology of communicable and non-communicable diseases, with an emphasis on their application in professional healthcare practices to design more efficient treatments for managing these conditions.

2) Public Health and Health Care

Focuses on studying regional health problems under the various perspectives of public health, fostering research that contributes to understanding the relevance and transcendence of professional practices aimed at health promotion, disease prevention, and treatment of health conditions.
